Shoot the Light In Field Program, Wednesday 7-9 a.m.

Meeting Location: Alligator Farm

Difficulty Level: beginner Max no of People: 10

Join Chas in the field as he shares his thought process behind the making of an image, as well as the techniques used to produce images in the field. Preparedness is the key to efficiency, and proficiency is the way to better images. The faster you are able to assess the conditions as presented and employ the tools and techniques necessary to render the image as desired, the more likely you are to accomplish your goal. There are four things; knowing the fundamentals, familiarity with your equipment, pre-visualization, and preparedness that are paramount to consistently produce successful imagery.

Light Illuminates, Shadow Defines: A Program Designed to Enhance Both Your Technical Ability and Visual Sense Cost: Thursday 9-10:30 a.m.

Meeting Location: Whitney Lab, Auditorium

Difficulty Level: intermediate

Chas Glatzer’s success as a commercial photographer has been characterized by his ability to see and understand light. Wildlife photography is the same without exception. Being able to see and understand light, its quality, physical properties, etc., and how they relate to your subject and capture medium will allow you to take control of your imagery.

Flash Demystified: Friday 3:30-5 p.m.

Meeting Location: Whitney Lab, Auditorium

Difficulty Level: intermediate

Proper use of flash remains a mystery to most…. More than any single tool, flash has expanded Chas’ creativity, and productivity. Flash is an integral part of his image making process, and he now shoots images in light that he never before considered. Through its use, he is able to control the degree of subject detail rendered, independent of the ambient light and its direction. Along with the increase in flash shutter-speed synchronization, slow, rear, and high-speed flash sync modes now afford the nature photographer unprecedented supplemental illumination control and creativity. Participants will learn when, why and how to properly use both TTL and Manual flash techniques to create stunning images in all kinds of light. **It is suggested that you bring your camera, a small lens (example 24-70 or 70-200 zoom) and your flash to class.
