Photo Tip – choose the best light

When the lighting fluctuates in quality and quantity, such as that on partially cloudy days, I find it best to only choose the lighting that best suits the subject, be it overcast or sunny. Set the exposure in camera ahead of time for the best lighting and only shoot the subject when these conditions are again present. Eliminate the variables by concentrating on one task at a time. Defining your goals and focusing your attention will increase your productivity.

Excellent thought here. when in Alaska recently shooting bears fishing in the waters of Lake Clark, we had an overcast day where the light varied tremendously from that under heavy, low clouds to partly cloudy skies. Trying to adapt to the conditions changing by the minute was problematic. While a good learning experience thru experimentation, I would have better images if I would have focused on the best reasonable lighting that was going to be available.
