Brown bears and More, AK, 2020
August 11th-18th, 2020
(Full)
Having hosted 100 plus bear workshops to date Chas extensive knowledge of bear (black, brown, polar) behavior translates into better imagery for the participant. Knowing what to look for ahead of time can often mean the difference in capturing a mediocre image, or the image of a lifetime. Our smaller group (we have the whole lodge) provides greater opportunity to photograph natural behavior that can frequently be photographed at close range. Remote access, and extended time afield allows us to make the most of each wildlife encounter. Our lodge is located in the most beautiful and pristine wilderness setting in Katmai National Park.
We have specifically timed this workshop to coincide with a unique event. In Aug of 2020 both the sockeye and pink salmon runs are scheduled to peak on the river system near our lodge making for extraordinary bear activity and photographic opportunities. Additionally, the area offers extremely diverse marine mammal and birdlife. We have Exclusive use of this beautiful lodge. Meals are first rate, and all cabins are ensuite!
This is a highly productive workshop offering photographers multiple unspoiled wilderness environments in which to take unique wild brown bear images. Our plan is to head out each morning via boat from our beautiful lodge/cabin base to photograph brown bears as they fish for salmon along a wild river, meander through braids, frequent marshland, and tidal zones.
The days are long and photo opportunities are abundant. Our guides and myself will make every effort to put you in the right place at the right time. This is your workshop, and we aim to please.
While Brown Bears are our primary subject our lodge is home to some of the world’s most breathtaking wildlife. Frequent encounters include sea otters, river otters, seals, puffins, kittiwakes and the majestic Bald Eagle. On special occasions, you may see whales, orca, wolves, fox, moose, and even a wolverine.
Arrive in Kodiak one day prior to your lodge departure (lodging included), avoiding any possible airline delays, and we kindly request you book your Kodiak to Anchorage flight at 4:45 pm or later, after your visit to the lodge.
