Costa Rica, 2024
Costa Rica
April 4, 2024 to April 14, 2024
Hosted by Joe Subolefsky
Workshop limited to a maximum of six participants.
This trip includes ten full days photographing in the Costa Rician rainforest. Costa Rica is home to 903 bird species. We will have numerous opportunities to photograph various hummingbirds such as Volcano Hummingbird, Firey-throated Hummingbird and White-necked Jacobin. Several Toucan species such as the Chestnut-mandibled Toucan, Keel-billed Toucan, Collared Aracari and Blue-throated Toucanet present themselves at various points in the trip. Juvenile and adult King Vultures at close range are not to be missed! This workshop offers ample time with the Resplendent Quetzal during prime nesting season. We timed this trip for when the chicks have hatched, and the adults are transporting food to the nest! A night session photographing bats is a unique experience. We will set ourselves up for success in shooting the Central American Pygmy Owl, Spectacled Owl and Black and White Owl.
Embark on this journey with Shoot the Light host, Joe Subolefsky as he guides you in the various methods of shooting in the splendid habitats.
The trip will include sessions with the various hummingbird species in natural and flash set ups, a night shoot focusing on bats, exclusive use of two different King Vulture hides, more than five different feeder stations, and macro photography using frogs, reptiles and amphibians. A boat excursion photographing along the San Carlos River will bring you to the animals.
Two full mornings will be spent photographing the Resplendent Quetzal. This spectacular bird boasts emerald green colors with red highlights. The male’s tail can be up to three feet long flowing behind his body like a streamer.
Three separate eco-lodges in three completely different habitats and biomes will wow you with their large rooms, delicious food and beautiful settings.
This workshop provides you with an amazing in-field photographic experience. Our primary focus will be birds and amphibians.
