This Workshop is truly Amazing!!
Participants previous trip efforts produced the cover of Popular Photography, and the Grand Prize Nature's Best. This is a high energy adrenaline rush workshop with outstanding photographic opportunities.
This STL workshop is for photographers who want to photograph brown bears, and other wildlife in a truly remote wilderness area away from crowds. Our primary goal is to photograph brown bears feeding on salmon within a variety of backgrounds. Natural behavior can frequently be photographed at close range. Our small group and remote access allows us to make the most of each wildlife encounter. Unlike other facilities and camps, we have the luxury of staying on location for extended periods without the pressure of crowds, away from any man made structures.

Testimonials...
Imagine wading in waist deep Glacier water in Alaska next to a Canon Explorer of Light, with each step in the frigid water, your legs feeling hundreds of salmons swimming pass you through the stream. Suddenly, you found yourself surrounded by more than thirty bears, thirty of the biggest bears you've ever seen. But they were comfortable with your presence. With your heart pounding, you knelt down, with your lens barely above the water, eye to eye with one of these giants. The bear looked into your viewfinder, paused for a moment, and suddenly started to accelerate towards you. At each strike, his size doubled in your viewfinder, with huge splash that filled up your viewfinder. You struggled to keep the focus locked on his eyes, and at the last moment, he leaped into mid air, with his four feet all off the ground, his eyes taking a last glance at you, his gigantic claws pouncing into a salmon. You held onto your tripod making sure the waves created by the bear pounce wouldn't knock it over, and checked your camera LCD. You couldn't stopped grinning, even though your legs were still shaking. And later the shot would become the 2013 Grand Prize of Nature's Best Photography Windland Smith Rice International. Such was my experience in a Shoot the Light tour with Mr. Chas Glatzer, Canon Explorer of Light. Not only will you have the trip of your life, but his world class knowledge on photography will also instantly make you a much better photographer, both in vision, pre-visualization, photography techniques and mastery of Abobe Lightroom and Photoshop.

One of best photographic experiences I have ever had was this workshop in Alaska a few years ago, to photograph Brown Bears. I have admired his work for years, so when it came to decide who I wanted to shoot alongside with for my first trip to Alaska, there was no question that it would be with STL. It was an adventure I will never forget! Fantastic opportunities to see these magnificent creatures fishing along the river as we were taken to prime and remote locations in the best light. I came home with memory cards filled with wonderful images and memories. If you are looking to get great images of bears with one of the best photographers and instructors on the planet, be sure to sign-up with one of Charles Glatzer's / STL workshops!

Hi Folks,
Once again I was totally blown away with STL's ability to get us in the right place, at the right time, under very difficult conditions. Our guide, a fourteen year veteran on the river, said he had never seen it so high or swift. This would seriously limit our opportunities to the bears traveling up and down the river; however, I was quickly that this was all we needed. And it was. We were on bears all day, everyday, and I got almost everything I’d hoped for-almost because you have to have a reason to go back. In addition to jam packed photo action, we fished for two hours each of the last three days and returned home with 50 lbs of beautiful sockeye salmon filets. Slamming Salmon, through the lens and with the rod, what a thrill - as well as fine table-fare.If you are serious about your photography, and are serious about improving every aspect of it, you owe yourself an adventure with Shoot the Light - you will never regret it.
Thanks, Danny Womack

Our plan is to head out each morning via boat from our lodge/cabin base to photograph brown bears as they fish for salmon along a wild river and pound fish in abundance. This is a highly productive workshop offering photographers unspoiled wilderness environments in which to shoot unique wild brown bear images. Unlike other locations bear activity is not dependent on the ebb and flow of the tide.
For those wishing to fly-fish this world class river hosts sockeye, chum, silver, grayling, char, rainbow trout and even pike. It is in a word AMAZING!!!! Many of us fished during lulls in activity. Fish and bring home a 50lb box of fresh salmon fillets for all to enjoy at no additional expense ($700 value)
Note- our itinerary is flexible, and so we will discuss the options each evening before heading out the next morning. The days are long and photo opportunities are abundant. We will make every effort to put you in the right place at the right time. This is your workshop, and we aim to please. We have timed this workshop with the salmon run, and we look forward to capturing many wonderful images of brown bears chasing and feeding on fish. On a previous trip we have photographed wolves as they fed on the remains of salmon. Eagles on nests are also available.
